How do I use the Watering Minutes Table?

First determine your sprinkler application rate. Use the specifications manual for your sprinkler system. Or you may manually calculate the rate. The average sprinkler rate is 1 inch per hour. Your irrigation system specification should tell you what pressure to run the system and the resultant application rate.

If you have your sprinkler application rate and it is more or less than 1” per hour, use the Watering Minutes by Application Flow Rate Table (below) to determine irrigation time in minutes.

You have determined that your sprinkler application rate is 0.75”/hour. The Daily ET Index for today Saturday, October 1, 2011 is 0.50 inches, which tells you to irrigate for 30 minutes. With your lower sprinkler application rate, you should water your lawn for 40 minutes.
